Chris Brown Ordered to Pay Nearly $13 Million in Dog Attack Lawsuit

American R&B star Chris Brown has been ordered to pay nearly $13 million in damages after a jury found him liable in a lawsuit filed by his former housekeeper, who was severely injured in a dog attack at his California residence.

The ruling stems from a December 2020 incident involving Maria Avila, who alleged that she was mauled by a large guard dog while taking out the trash at Brown's Tarzana home. According to court records, the attack left her with permanent facial disfigurement, nerve damage, vision problems, and lasting emotional trauma.
A jury awarded Avila approximately $12.9 million in damages, while her sister, Patricia Avila, received $885,000 for emotional distress after witnessing the aftermath of the incident. Maria's husband was also awarded $50,000.

During the trial, Brown acknowledged partial responsibility for what occurred on his property but maintained that the dog belonged to his security team. He testified that he had previously warned staff members not to enter certain areas of the residence without security personnel present because the animals were not friendly.
The case, initially filed in 2021, has now concluded with one of the largest civil judgments linked to the singer in recent years, adding another chapter to Brown's long history of legal battles.
