The Benue State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Alhaji Ardo Mohammed.

The arrests followed intensive intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations carried out by security operatives in the Otukpo axis on Saturday night.

The command's spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a special operation aimed at unravelling the circumstances surrounding the killing and bringing those responsible to justice.

The individuals arrested were identified as Titus Thyodenda, 25; Utibe Sam, 20; Owoicho Ameh, 18; Sunday Useni, 21; Sunday Ogbanje, 46; Daniel Raphael, 23; Adokole John, 24; Samuel Ogazi, 32; Agbo Daniel, 25; and Onazi James, 30.

Alhaji Mohammed and his associate, Yakubu Isah, were reportedly killed on Friday shortly after attending a peace meeting convened by security authorities in Ohinmini Local Government Area. The meeting, which brought together community leaders and Fulani herders, was intended to foster dialogue and strengthen peaceful coexistence among residents.
According to available information, the victims were travelling back from the meeting when unknown gunmen ambushed their vehicle near Okudu village in neighbouring Otukpo Local Government Area, fatally shooting them.

The incident has heightened concerns over security in parts of Benue State already grappling with recurring communal conflicts and violent attacks.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the tactical teams and investigators for their swift response and professionalism in tracking down the suspects.

He assured residents that investigations remain ongoing and that security agencies are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend every individual connected to the killings.
The commissioner urged citizens to remain calm, continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information, and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions within affected communities.

He reiterated the command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace and security across Benue State, stressing that all those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
