Late Mr Ibu’s Widow Appeals for Public Support Amid Financial Hardship

The widow of late Nollywood icon John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for assistance as she battles mounting financial challenges following the actor’s death.

Mrs. Okafor revealed that her family is struggling to meet basic needs, including payment of house rent, electricity bills, and her children's school fees. She made the emotional appeal during a conversation with content creator King Mitchy.

According to her, the family has lived without electricity for nearly two months after their power supply was disconnected due to unpaid bills. She explained that they now rely on a well for water and must seek alternative places to charge their mobile phones.

“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. They have even cut our lights for two months now. Every night, we go to look for where to charge our phones. It has not been easy,” she lamented.

Mrs. Okafor also disclosed that her children have been unable to continue attending school because of outstanding fees, adding that she recently received another notification from the school concerning the payments.

Despite the difficult circumstances, she expressed profound gratitude to her mother for standing by the family and providing support whenever possible.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, and make us happy,” she said.
The appeal has sparked reactions from many Nigerians, with fans and well-wishers calling for support for the family of the beloved comic actor whose contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry brought laughter and joy to millions.

Mr. Ibu, one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a prolonged health battle. His death was widely mourned across the country, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, fans, and public figures.

As the family continues to navigate life after his passing, Mrs. Okafor’s plea has once again highlighted the financial difficulties that many families of late entertainers face, underscoring the need for stronger welfare structures and support systems within the creative industry.
